HOT AIR & CORVAIRS
Corvairs of New Mexico and our event " HOT AIR & CORVAIRS" is officially over and and we are pleased to report that we had a very nice weekend.

We were joined by our Corvair Cousins from Colorado and Illinois .
On Friday October 5th, we did our Meet-Greet-Eat .All our guests were greeted by members of CNM and briefed on our plans for the following two days.  Then we adjoured for dinner close by.

This event, like all events that CNM stages, is designed to promote the Corvair hobby, the Corvair as a unique American automobile and the genuine fun and pride we take in driving one or more of the many models produced.

The Albuquerque to Madrid to Santa Fe to Albuquerque Tour du jour
It's not something you see everyday. Oh, you can go to a car show and see them. Or maybe a daily driver will catch your eye . But a long line of Corvairs caravaning and touring through the hills and on into the old mining town of Madrid, New Mexico. Well, yes, not something you see everyday. And we were just magnets for all those that remember and those for whom we are new .

It is noteworthy that the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta mass ascension was cancelled this morning due to the excessive winds . Hot air balloons don't launch if the winds exceed about 12 or so mph. So, no balloons were to be seen this day therefore perfect for touring. Following our short stay in Madrid, we drove north to Santa Fe lead by CNM members Kay and Tarmo Sutt.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

As we arrived in Santa Fe and toured through the historic Plaza , the response from tourists and locals as they watched us pass, may have been the best part of the whole weekend. Maybe they thought they were seeing a parade or for whatever reason, we definitely created a little excitement.
After lunch, everyone was free to tour the historic plaza area on their own and reconvene at the appointed time. We met and returned to Albuquerque in time for our dinner .
Dinner in Albuquerque's North Valley
We returned to Albuquerque for dinner at El Brunos New Mexican restaurant and decided to start a new CNM tradition. From now on , wherever we gather as a group for dinner, that place,  at least while we're there , will now be called the " Corvair Cafe " .  We dined, had our drawing for door prizes (thank you Clarks Corvair for your donations to our event) and made our plans for the following day.
The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta
Fiesta of Wheels Car Show
Sunday, October 7th we gathered as early as 6:00 a.m. to take our place on the balloon fiesta grounds for the car show. The weather was perfect and the hot air balloons were cleared to launch. The previous morning, the opening day of the fiesta and the mass ascension, the event was cancelled due to the wind speeds being in excess of what is considered safe to launch.

Once the word was given that we could begin to drive in, we got in line and were among the first to do so. As we got closer to the launch site , the sky was already full and it was an impressive sight as always. However,  due to factors beyound our control, the second wave of balloons to go up was delayed and so everything got pushed back and we were effectively late to the field . That limited our ability to see what we had intended to see and what was advertised for this event. We hope that our Corvair cousins visiting from out of town got at least some sense of what this event was about .
The next time we do this , we will plan it differently . However, the one thing we cannot plan is the weather .
CNM hopes that our Saturday tour to Santa Fe helped make it all work out for our visiting guests.  Please enjoy the following slide show and video as a way to remember your time with us for the 2012 Corvairs of New Mexico......
